NHS Prescription Delivery

NHS Prescription Delivery Service

At Bramley Pharmacy, Ealing, we offer a limited, needs-based NHS prescription delivery service for patients who are genuinely unable to collect their medicines in person. This includes those who are housebound, elderly, or living with long-term conditions that restrict mobility.

It is important for patients to understand that the NHS does not fund the delivery of prescriptions to patients’ homes. Pharmacies provide this service at their own discretion and only where there is a clear clinical or practical need. We therefore operate a strictly eligibility-based model to ensure the service remains available for those who rely on it most.

NHS Prescription Delivery

Who the Service Is Intended For

Our NHS delivery service is reserved for:

  • Patients who are housebound

  • Elderly patients who cannot safely attend the pharmacy

  • Patients with long-term illnesses or disabilities that prevent travel

  • Carers collecting medication for someone who meets the above criteria

This service is not designed for convenience. Patients who are able to visit the pharmacy, or who have friends/family who can collect on their behalf, are encouraged to use those options so delivery capacity is not diverted away from patients who truly need it.

The service is strictly for routine, non-urgent repeat medication.

How the Service Works

1. Nominate Bramley Pharmacy

Register with us and nominate Bramley Pharmacy as your NHS dispensary.

2. Request Your Repeat Prescription

Order your medication through your GP surgery. Once received, your prescription is prepared and scheduled for delivery if you meet our eligibility criteria.

3. Routine Delivery

Eligible NHS patients receive deliveries during our standard non-urgent delivery rounds, within our set catchment area.

Urgent or Acute Medication Deliveries (e.g. antibiotics)

Requests for acute, same-day, or urgent prescriptions fall outside the NHS delivery framework.

A delivery fee will apply, calculated based on:

  • Distance

  • Timing

  • Availability of delivery staff

To arrange this, you must call the pharmacy. A member of our team will confirm the charge and advise whether a delivery slot is available.

Costs and Eligibility

  • NHS prescription delivery is free only for patients who meet our eligibility criteria.

  • The NHS does not pay for delivery services, and pharmacies are not reimbursed for providing them.

  • Non-eligible patients, private prescriptions, and urgent deliveries will incur a charge.

  • Standard NHS prescription charges still apply where relevant.

If you are unsure whether you qualify, please contact our team for guidance.

Why We Operate This Policy

We want to ensure that vulnerable and housebound patients continue to receive the support they need. Offering unrestricted or convenience-based delivery would compromise our ability to provide a safe, equitable service.

By reserving delivery for patients with genuine need, we maintain capacity for those who depend on us most.
